Patient Journey to Wellness

RESET therapy can be part of achieving weight loss, but it requires a lasting commitment to losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle.

Preparing for your procedure:

Preparing for your procedure:

Prior to your procedure, your doctor will:

  • Describe the RESET therapy procedure and the potential side effects.
  • Ask a series of questions about your current health and medical history to help make sure the procedure is safe for you.
  • Conduct a medical exam and take a blood sample to test for certain conditions such as blood clotting problems, diabetes, and low iron levels that could make the procedure or therapy less safe for you.
  • Prescribe a daily antacid, known as histamine-2 receptor antagonist (H2RA) which you must take from two-weeks prior to device placement until two weeks after it is removed.
  • Advise you to take a multivitamin and iron supplement daily.
  • Advise you that the use of NSAIDs, are not allowed. (Check with your doctor before taking any over-the-counter medicines or supplements).
  • Discuss the time commitment and lifestyle changes needed to be successful with this therapy.

What to expect procedure day:

Your doctor will give you specific instructions to prepare for your procedure day.

The RESET therapy placement procedure is typically an outpatient (same-day) procedure. The procedure will be performed under general anesthesia. After general anesthesia, you may feel drowsy and not remember much about your procedure.

During the procedure, your physician will place the RESET Liner in your small intestine and give you some antibiotics and medication to help stop feeling nauseas.

A very thin soft tube,
the RESET Liner allows
for the passage of food
from the stomach
to the small intestine.

Post-procedure:

Post-procedure:

You should plan to take it easy for several days after the procedure. You may experience some mild abdominal discomfort and/or nausea, and a prescription for pain medication may be provided to help make you more comfortable during your recovery.

Most patients can return to normal activities within two to three days after the procedure, but some patients take up to a week or more to feel better.

After implantation, you will begin a liquid diet for 7 days. You should refrain from doing any vigorous exercise, including abdominal exercises. Your doctor will also give you detailed instructions on caring for yourself during this time. Your care team will work with you regarding diet for the implant period of 9 months.
