A New Chapter in Your Health Journey Starts Here

How it Works

RESET® is a tool that may help reduce weight as well as helping other health conditions such as type 2 diabetes in reducing your blood sugar levels and the amount of food that you absorb.

The RESET Liner is temporarily implanted in the upper part of the small intestine during a short endoscopic procedure, and acts as a barrier to prevent exposure of food.

During the implant period, it aims to alter specific hormones associated with metabolic diseases and create a ‘sense of fullness’ in the stomach after eating.

Who is RESET for?

The RESET System is intended to be used along with lifestyle intervention and/or medication(s) for patients living with obesity and type 2 diabetes or other cardiometabolic risk factors to promote weight loss and HbA1c and minimize the likelihood of obesity-related complications such as cardiovascular disease and/or deterioration of underlying type 2 diabetes.

The device is intended for use in patients who have failed to achieve adequate weight loss following diet, exercise, and dual therapy medical management.

    • 77% of patients with RESET maintained significant improvement 3 years after removal of the device.1

  • Clinically Proven Weight Loss

    • Total weight loss in patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes was 18.9% at explant of RESET.2

  • Demonstrated Glycemic Control

    • Effects of RESET therapy on glycemic control is likely to reduce the complications of diabetes.3

  • Type 2 Diabetes

1.6% reduction in HbA1c demonstrates RESET as highly effective in patients with unmanageable diabesity with baseline HbA1c of ≥ to 73

  • Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease

Patients with elevated liver stiffness at baseline (n=13) saw a reduction of 7.1 kPa with RESET6

  • Cardiovascular Disease

Estimated overall CV risk decreased significantly after RESET implantation and remained stable within 6 months after explantation7

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is RESET a surgical procedure? Will I have scars?

RESET isn’t traditional surgery—it’s done entirely through the mouth using an endoscope. That means no external cuts and no scars. It is a simple, easy, and reversible procedure that does not alter your anatomy.

  • What exactly is RESET and how is it used?

The RESET Liner is a sleeve (approximately 60cm in length), which is very thin and soft. It will be implanted inside your small bowel and will line the wall of your upper intestines. There is a small metal ring at one end that holds the tube in position. The RESET Liner is open at both ends to allow for the passage of food from the stomach to the small intestine.

The RESET Liner acts as a barrier, preventing exposure of food and absorption of nutrients in the upper 60cm of the small intestine. It may also  re-establish the triggering of hormones involved with metabolic diseases, like type 2 diabetes, which create a sense of fullness in the stomach after eating.

  • Is the RESET method suitable for me?

The RESET System is intended to be used as an additional therapy to lifestyle and/or medication(s) for the management of Class 1, 2, and 3 obesity with at least one cardiometabolic risk factor, like type 2 diabetes and/or high cholesterol, occurring at the same time.

The device is intended for use in patients who have not achieved adequate weight loss following diet, exercise, and prescription medications. RESET is intended to be used for a maximum of nine months.

  • What goals can be achieved with RESET?

Clinical data from 1,298 patients show an average weight loss of 18.9% of total body weight.2 HbA1c levels decreased by 1.6%,3 indicating a significant improvement in blood sugar control. Most notably, 77% of patients were able to maintain their improvements three years after implant removal.1

  • How does RESET differ from a classic gastric bypass?

Unlike the surgical Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, RESET does not require abdominal incisions and does not alter your anatomy. The implant is placed endoscopically and can be removed at any time. While the stomach and small intestine are surgically and permanently diverted in gastric bypass surgery.

  • How long does the procedure take?

The RESET placement and removal procedures take approximately 20 minutes each and are typically  outpatient  procedures.

  • How long does the RESET implant stay in the body and how is it removed?

Treatment with RESET lasts up to nine months. After this period, the implant is removed endoscopically (through the mouth) under general anesthesia. The procedure is reversible and carries lower risks than permanent surgical procedures because no permanent anatomical changes are made.

  • What will I have to do long term?

Lifestyle counseling is an important part of therapy with the RESET Liner. Although you may begin losing weight quickly just by the device alone, diet and exercise counseling may help you to reach and maintain your goal weight. If you make changes in your lifestyle, you may be able to prolong the effects of the device once it is removed.

Additionally, lifestyle counseling sessions should help you:

    • Set reasonable and achievable goals for changing how and what you eat

    • Make better choices when you eat out

    • Add activities and exercise to get you moving

    • Deal with triggers that make you want to eat when you are not hungry

  • Are GLP-1 or other medications required to achieve lasting weight loss results with RESET?

Endobariatric therapy is personalized to patient needs. If the patient doesn’t tolerate GLP-1s, RESET is a great standalone procedure that can give lasting outcomes in weight loss and normalisation of blood sugar. However, there is no reason that patients cannot combine therapies.

  • Am I eligible for RESET?

Please contact a physician for a consultation to learn if you are eligible for RESET therapy.
